What is the best thing about teaching internationally?

The best thing about teaching internationally is how much it has helped me grow professionally and personally as an educator. I have had the opportunity to collaborate with amazing teachers who have experience teaching all over the world. I have expanded my horizons and have traveled to places in the world that I would have never thought to or been able to before. It is an experience that I am so grateful for.

How did UNI help you obtain your international teaching position?

If it were not for UNI I would have never been able to teach internationally. The job fair put me in contact with schools all over the world and helped prepare me for the fair. They were willing to answer any questions I had and prepared me with what I needed to know to feel successful at the fair. UNI made my dream come true!

Why UNI?

There are a variety of reasons for returning to UNI for the annual international recruiting fair. I can always count on the UNI staff to deliver an outstanding recruiting experience for both recruiters and candidates. Additionally, the quality of candidates who attend the UNI fair has been exceptional over the years and the impact these candidates have in promoting the learning of students has been an asset for each of the schools I've had the pleasure of working at over the past two decades.

What is the best thing about teaching internationally?

Teaching internationally has provided me with professional and personal experiences that I would not have otherwise had if I stayed in the U.S.  Because the international community is so interconnected, I have been able to expand my network and learn from and collaborate with colleagues throughout the world.

How did UNI help you obtain your international teaching position?

UNI hosted the fair where I was originally hired to teach overseas for the first time as a young teacher.  They were great in preparing me for the fair and were willing to answer any questions I had.  They were helpful in getting me in contact with potential employers.  I was able to grow professionally and eventually move into an administrative position at another school and now I use UNI's fair to recruit qualified candidates for my own school!

Why UNI?

I have attended the University of Northern Iowa Overseas Recruiting fair as a recruiter for over twenty years. The most obvious reason for doing so is the consistently high quality of candidates, but there are multiple other reasons for doing so too. The UNI personnel are some of the nicest, most genuine, and supportive persons to be found in all walks of life. Their genuine desire to help all of us staff our schools with outstanding teachers, and to assist candidates to find the right school fit makes a tremendous difference in the recruiting process. For me, the UNI teacher recruiting fair is the top teacher recruiting venue for schools and candidates.

Why UNI?

UNI is core to our school’s recruiting needs because of the special group of educators that the fair attracts – those who are new to the profession along with other experienced educators who are exploring an overseas experience. Every year I am fortunate to hire at least two or three teachers from UNI and they are always exceedingly successful.

In addition, the organization and support of UNI staff is superb as they manifest the midwest work ethic and kindness that has resulted in a global reputation for excellence. UNI will always be a core component of the recruiting strategy at any international school in which I serve.

Why UNI?

If we have all been willing to brave Iowa winters for decades, then you know that the UNI Recruiting Fair has to be something special. Without question, each year, I have had the chance to meet some exceptional educators and more often than not I find myself having to select from a number of great possibilities rather than hoping to simply find someone good. Beyond that, the fair itself is exceptionally well done. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and wonderfully managed. You will not find better, more helpful people, and the UNI staff is of the highest integrity, with great humanity. They work closely with both recruiters and candidates to ensure everyone finds their way and they can be counted on to solve problems, or offer advice, or simply share a warm smile when you need one most.

Why UNI?

The UNI Overseas Recruitment Fair is the most organized and reasonably costed recruitment fair for international educators.  The UNI team commits an entire year seeking talented educators and promoting the event such that a full range of grade level, subject, and specialist candidates are represented in the pool of candidates, and a maximum range of international school opportunities are available to them.  Many of the candidates we have hired from the UNI fair are seen as our most talented, professional and engaged teachers.

What is the best thing about teaching internationally?

The different perspectives and nuances in students' interpretation of Literature that can only be born from cultural differences and that would otherwise never have occurred to me as a teacher working solely in the USA. It often feels like I am reading novels and classics through an entirely new pair of eyes.

How did UNI help you obtain your international teaching position?

I may never have considered teaching anywhere but the USA if I had not heard of the UNI fair. Attending that event has changed the course of my life in a drastic and completely positive way.

What is the best thing about teaching internationally?

The best thing about teaching internationally is the daily sense of adventure one feels. My everyday life is never boring nor monotonous. Furthermore, the school calendar and the salary are sufficient for myself and my daughter to frequently travel to new places that would have never been possible maintaining my teaching job in the USA.

How did UNI help you obtain your international teaching position?

Throughout the process, the comprehensive services provided by UNI made it so that I could find the right school for me and my daughter. At the fair, I received a contract from a great school

What is the best thing about teaching internationally?

Being part of such a strong and supportive community. I’ve met unbelievable people on this journey and I know that I have made “forever friends” along the way. Since we’re all uprooting our old lives for something as new and different as international teaching, there is an incredibly strong sense of camaraderie; I know that I’m never alone.

How did UNI help you obtain your international teaching position?

UNI laid everything out for us and made the process practically painless. Everything was so well organized that even though I was so new to the job search, I didn’t feel overwhelmed or under qualified. I felt comfortable enough with the process that I was able to focus on finding a job that was right for me instead of just focusing on surviving the weekend.
